Dr. James S. Cinamon, Dentist

FRAMINGHAM – Dr. James S. “Jim” Cinamon, of Framingham, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022 after a courageous battle with Adult Polyglucosan Body Disorder (APBD).

He was a dedicated father to his daughters Alexandra E. Cinamon and partner Anthony Cox; Abigail A. Iannuzzi and husband Joseph Iannuzzi, of Boston, MA, and Jim’s devoted service dog Gertie. He is survived by his sister Nancy Cinamon-Murray and her husband Josh Murray of Ashland; brother David Cinamon and wife Robin, of Bainbridge Island, WA; and step-siblings Mitch Shifrin and Debra Cinamon-Whelan. He was a doting uncle to his nieces Anna Cinamon and Kali Joseph, her husband Chris Vasich and their daughter Everly. He will be missed by the entire Breslouf family and his Cinamon cousins in London, UK; and lovingly remembered by sister-in-law Betsy, brother-in-law David, as well as the entire McCarron family. He is also survived by Denise and Jocelyn Barry of Sherborn..

His daughters Alix and Abby find comfort that he is with their mom, Paula Cinamon, who found eternal peace in May 2011. He’ll be joined again with his beloved parents, Ruth Breslouf Cinamon and Alfred Harvey Cinamon. Jim’s family is grateful for his long-time companion Joan Tibbert for bringing him joy in his final years; and to his home health aides Cassie and Bernice caring for him day in and day out with dignity and respect.

Jim has made countless lasting friendships throughout his life.

He was a graduate of Framingham North High School, class of 1970; University of Massachusetts Amherst, class of 1974; University of Pennsylvania Dental School, class of 1978; followed by a dental residency at University of Vermont in Burlington.

Aside from the love of family and friends, his greatest passion was dentistry. Dr. Cinamon practiced general dentistry in Framingham for 40 years, retiring in 2018.

The depth and love of his career went beyond his private practice. He was actively involved in many state and national organizations including the American Dental Association, the Massachusetts Dental Society, the Metropolitan District Dental Society, and the Yankee Dental Conference held yearly in Boston. He held many offices and served on countless committees and received numerous awards. He served as president of the Massachusetts Dental Society and spent years as a clinician and instructor at Harvard Dental School. In the Metropolitan District Dental Society he was known amongst his peers as “Mr. Metropolitan” where he served as a chairman and trustee.

At the Yankee Dental Conference, he was a lecturer for many years and was honored as a Volunteer of the Year. The Mass Dental Society honored Dr. Cinamon as a Clinician of the Year.

In 2017 he was given a Lifetime Achievement Award for his tenure in dentistry. Dr. Cinamon also contributed countless hours to Give Kids a Smile in Massachusetts. Also notable is Jim’s contribution as the first dentist to perform a root canal on a German Shepard. He loved and was loved dearly by his staff and patients, whom he considered family.

Jim was an avid bicyclist and raised over $100,000 for the Pan-Mass Challenge during his 20 years of participation.

In addition, he raised thousands of dollars for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society with team ‘Cinamon Buns.’

He’ll be remembered by so many for his infectious smile, positive outlook on life, overall kindness; and for being the unofficial mayor of Framingham. In honor of Jim, please pay it forward by smiling to a stranger and helping those in need. And don’t forget to floss.
