FRAMINGHAM – Christine C. (Demas) Thayer, 72, of Framingham died on January 15, 2022, following a long health battle.
She was the beloved wife of Barry Thayer. They would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary this year. Chris and Barry were a wonderful team and traveled the world together.
Born in Springfield, MA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eleanore (Vassos) Demas. Christine’s nickname with her schoolfriends was Bunny, given to her from her grandfather.
Christine was a graduate of Westfield State College and received her Master’s in Education from Boston University. She taught in Boston Public Schools and Framingham Public Schools.
Christine was a loving wife, wonderful mother, amazing Granny, and one of the kindest people you will ever know. Just hearing her laugh made you smile.
An avid gardener, Christine was the Simpson Park Garden Club’s past president and a member of the Pinefield Garden Club. In her yard, you would always find beautiful arrangements of plants and flowers. The running joke was that Chris would point and Barry would dig the hole.
Christine loved to read (she was a member of 3 book clubs!), travel with her husband, Barry, and vacation every summer with her family in York Beach, Maine.
In her free time, you would find Christine swimming at Learned Pond and Atkinson Pool or participating in the Audubon Society’s annual bird count. In the winter, you would find her snowshoeing in the backyard with her dog, Sugar.
Besides her husband, Barry, she is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Lee’or Rutenberg of Seattle, WA, and Julie and Jon Haefner of West Granby, CT. Christine is also survived by her two Grandchildren, Sadie of Seattle, WA, and Jesse of West Granby, CT. She loved being a Granny and the grandkids adored her.
A memorial service will be held on a future date. There will be no funeral home visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Christine’s memory to the Audubon Society, www.massaudubon.org ; Sudbury Valley Trustees, www.svtweb.org ; or the American Diabetes Association www.diabetes.org .
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Norton Funeral Home, Framingham.
