District 3 City Council Candidate Feeney Files For Election Recount

FRAMINGHAM – District 3 City Council candidate Mary Kate Feeney who finished two votes behind Framingham City Council Vice Chair Adam Steiner is requesting a recount.

“Today,I filed an official petition with the City Clerk for a recount of votes cast in Precincts 4 and 7 in District 3 in the November 2 municipal election. With a two vote difference – .1% margin – between myself and the Council Vice Chair Adam Steiner, it is important to ensure every vote is accurately counted,” said Feeney in a statement.

Steiner received 997 votes unofficially – the results have not been certified – on Tuesday, November 2. Feeney received 995 votes.

Feeney had 10 days to file for a recount of the election results announced on November 2. She also needed to collect 10 signatures from voters in Precinct 4 and 10 signatures from voters in Precinct 7.

“Thank you to everyone who has stopped me in the store, in a restaurant or on the street to share your support and encouragement to move ahead with filing for a recount. Your words helped guide me as I made this decision,” said Feeney.

“It is clear my campaign’s message resonated and that people are seeking change. Regardless of the outcome of this recount, we cannot give up on pushing our city government to reform the way it does business. I am optimistic for the future and look forward to the resolution of last week’s election,” said Feeney.

The date of the recount has not been set, according to the City Clerk.

Steiner posted on social media “As many of you have already heard, we are headed to a recount for the District 3 City Council race. In a race as close as this, it makes perfect sense to verify that every vote is counted. I look forward to participating in the process and arriving at a clear outcome.”
