Framingham State Field Hockey Loses in Double Overtime

FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham State field hockey erased a 2-0 fourth quarter deficit to force overtime but the Western Connecticut Colonials were able to produce the game winner in the second overtime to earn the Little East victory Tuesday evening at Maple Street Field in Framingham.

Framingham State lost 3-2 in double overtime,

The Rams are now 2-4 overall and 0-4 in the Conference.

Western Conn State improved to 3-4 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

• The Rams had a great look with just over a minute to go in the final minute of the first half when Jordyn O’Boyle’s (Haverhill) shot was deflected off the goalie and knocked out of harm’s way by Reilly Schmidt (Centereach, NY). 

• The Colonials got on the board in the 36th minute when Nora Swift (Brookfield, Conn.) tapped in the rebound off rebounded shot from Samantha Burns (New Milford, Conn.). 

• The visitors tallied again in the 43rd minute when Alessia Callahan (Glassboro, NJ) sent in a long strike from the top of the arc off a corner from Swift.  

• The Rams cut the deficit in half in the 50th minute when Abby Clark (Uxbridge) finished off a pass from Bella Kondi (Caanan, NH). 

• The Rams tied the game with just over two minutes to go when Kaitlin Loughlin (Ashland) finished off a one-time pass from Kondi.  

• The Rams seemed to have taken the lead in the final moment when a long strike was sent in the top of the cage but the goal was waved off.  

• After the Rams kept possession for most of the first overtime, they had a great look in the final minute, but Clark’s shot hit the post and deflected away.  

• Just after the first minute of the second overtime Olivia Moore (New Preston, Conn.) sent in a strike from the top of the arc that was batted up in the air by Swift and quickly swatted into the open cage to give WestConn the game winner.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

• Kayla Hnasko (Raritan, NJ) made six stops in the win for the Colonials. 

• Grace Pushor (Old Town, ME) turned away two attempts in goal for the Rams. 

• The Rams held the advantage in shots 13-to-9 and both teams were awarded seven penalty corners.
