UPDATED: Framingham Health Board Unanimously Prohibits Buffets, Salad Bars, & Personal Service Industry Businesses

FRAMINGHAM – In an unanimous 3-0 remote vote, the Framingham Board of Health tonight, March 24, voted to limit additional businesses and services beyond Governor Charlie Baker’s essential business order that went into effect at noon today.

The Board of Health felt the Governor’s order did not go far enough, thus posted an emergency meeting on Monday at 8:30 p.m. Tonight’s meeting was held remotely, the public could not attend, but they could call in.

UPDATED: The vote prohibits “any congregation of people inside a lottery retailer in Framingham is prohibited until further notice. The order cited “certain lottery products, such as Keno,” which attract congregations of lottery customers inside retail establishments.

Keno is typically played in bars & taverns, which under the governor’s order are closed as of noon on Tuesday, March 24.

The vote also prohibits businesses from offering buffets and salad bars.

The vote also prohibiting several “in-person personal care services,” which were already included in the Governor’s order.

Personal care services listed in the Framingham Board of Health’s order included:

 Hair salons and barbershops

 Beauty Parlors, including but not limited to waxing, facials, and similar services

 Massage Therapy Establishments, including in-home services

 Body Arts Establishments

 Bodyworks Establishments

 Nail Salons

 Spas

 Gyms and Fitness Facilities

 Tanning Salons

“Certain personal care services are conducted in person and are difficult to practice social distancing of keeping at least six feet between the service provider and the customer,” stated the Framingham Board of Health order to be voted on.

The City of Framingham’s public health department will enforce the new order.

The first infraction carries a warning.

Multiple violations could mean the suspension or revocation of a City permit.
