Framingham Firefighters Playing in Golf Fights Cancer Golf Marathon To Honor Late Deputy Fire Chief

FRAMINGHAM – Three Framingham firefighters will be participating in the Golf Fights Cancer Golf marathon in memory of Deputy Chief Brad Smith.

More than a year ago, Framingham Fire Deputy Chief Brad Smith lost his battle with occupational cancer, ⁣a critical issue facing firefighters, who are 14% more likely to die of cancer than the general population.

“To honor Brad, the other Framingham Firefighters who have lost their battle with occupational cancer, and to support DetecTogether’s program for first responders, we’re playing in the Golf Fights Cancer Golf Marathon. On June 4, we will each play 100 holes of golf, and our fundraising dollars will allow DetecTogether to bring their early cancer detection education to more firehouses at no cost. DetecTogether teaches firefighters how to identify early symptoms of cancer, gives a timeframe for action, and empowers them to collaborate with their doctors. Cancer is the most dangerous threat to firefighter health, and we all need this training,” noted the firefighters on their fundraising page.

“The Golf Fights Cancer Golf Marathon is a unique fundraising event that combines a love of golf and the desire to give back. Golf Fights Cancer has chosen DetecTogether as this year’s Golf Marathon charity. We will be raising critical funds and ask you to support us by making a gift. Our goal is $3,000 per team member, and a donation of any amount will make a difference,” said the team.
