BOSTON – Starting May 10, the Baker-Polito administration announced today, May 7, that grocery stores and retail stores with a pharmacy department will no longer be required to offer senior hours.

The senior hours were set up in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic began, as a way to offer seniors time to shop without massive crowds.

With the Commonwealth’s COVID numbers decreasing and more than 80% of the state’s population age 65 and older either fully vaccinated or particially vaccinated, the hours will no longer be required.

Stores can continue the hours on an optional basis if they choose.
