City Council Unanimously Approves Parking Meter Relief For Downtown Framingham

FRAMINGHAM – The 11-member City Council voted unanimously last night, March 17, to waive parking meters for 30 days to support downtown small businesses, during this coronavirus pandemic.

The proposal was requested by Downtown Framingham Inc.

“We’re advocating for a 30-day parking meter waiver to support grab & go shopping, especially for our well-known array of restaurants, cafes, and sub shops that desperately need your patronage,” said Executive Director Courtney Thraen. “

District 4 City Councilor Michael Cannon, who chairs the Council’s economic development subcommittee , asked for the measure to be on last night’s City Council meeting.

The meeting was attended by 6 of the 11 City Councilors. The other 5 Councilors participated via telephone conference call.

The 2-hour parking limit is still in place, even if the meters are not in place, under the vote last night.
