Sisitsky Announces Run For Framingham Mayor

FRAMINGHAM – Former City Councilor and long-time former Framingham Selectman Charlie Sisitsky announced he has “taken the first steps toward initiating my campaign for Mayor of Framingham.”

Sisitsky, a retired director of public works for the Town of Natick, said “I’m assembling a diverse team of supporters and expect to make a formal announcement of my plans in the next several weeks.”

He filed his paperwork this morning with the state on his mayoral run.

“Over the past weeks and months I have received so many entreaties from people who have encouraged me to run,” said Sisitsky. “People who appreciate my 40-year career in municipal executive management and track record of collaboration in public service as a Selectman and City Councilor … people deeply invested in our community and people dedicated to the future of Framingham.”

The Nobscot resident said “They come from all corners of the community and represent parents, educators, seniors, environmentalists, and business and political leaders and all of them are concerned with the trajectory of our current administration and its many shortcomings that are putting our City at a competitive disadvantage — right at the moment we should be focused on working collaboratively toward a post- pandemic recovery.”

Sisitsky who lives in District 1 said he will continue to confer with these and other community members and “formally share my plans soon.”

Sisitsky announced a possible mayoral run in 2017, when the City of Framingham elected its first mayor. But later opted to support the late state Rep. Chris Walsh in his mayoral run. Sadly, Rep. Walsh withdrew his candidacy when his cancer returned in 2017. Rep. Walsh died in May of 2018.

The City of Framingham elected its first-ever Mayor in November 2017. Yvonne Spicer defeated John Stefanini easily for the executive position. Sisitsky was elected the District 1 City Councilor in November 2017 and served through December 31, 2019.

Mayor Yvonne Spicer told the SOURCE on Monday she was not ready to announce her re-election campaign.

Voters will elect a mayor in November 2021.

Nominations papers for elected positions on the November ballot will not be available until June 1.
