FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham’s Mayor Yvonne Spicer is one of seven inaugural Mayors’ Institute on City Design (MICD) fellows.

On Friday, March 12, the seven mayors who were part of the fellowship will participate in a panel sponsored by MICD and Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.

The focus of the discussion will be on tackling “racial injustices in each of their cities through planning and design interventions.”

Mayor Spicer is part of a 1:20 p.m. panel titled “Memory, Place Narratives and the Just City“.

The other Mayors on the panel with her are Columbia, South Carolina Mayor Stephen Benjamin, Greenville, Mississippi Mayor Errick Simmons, and Union City Georgia Mayor Vince Williams.

The program’s bio for Mayor Spicer states “Spicer is the first Mayor of the City of Framingham. She was sworn into office on January 1, 2018, the same day Framingham officially became a city. Committed to sustainable economic growth, the Mayor served on the Massachusetts Business Roundtable, the Massachusetts Office of the Treasurer Economic Empowerment Trust Fund, was a Town Meeting Member, and served on the Standing Committee on Ways and Means. She is the 2017 President-Elect to the International Technology Engineering Education Association (ITEEA) an international organization designed to build capacity for technology and engineering education globally working with Kindergarten through 12th graders, higher education.”

There is a second panel at 3:15 p.m. on restorative justice through dignity economy.

On that panel are Birmingham, Alabama Mayor Randall L. Woodfin, Mount Vernon, New York Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, and jackson, Mississippi Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba.
