ASHLAND – Shirlee Anne (Cotter) Macomber 84, a resident of Ashland, for many years, passed away on February 24, 2020 at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Nursing facility in West Boylston.
Shirlee was born December 4, 1935 in Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia the oldest child of Kenneth Cotter and Ethel Hines.
In 1953 she married Donald Macomber, the love of her life. Don and Shirlee moved to Ashland, Mass in 1961 with their five children.
Shirley loved visiting family and friends in Nova Scotia, square dancing, and attending St. Paul Episcopal in Hopkinton.
Besides her husband of 55 years, Shirlee was pre-deceased by her parents, brothers Ken, Sterling, and Ernie, and sister Joyce Currie. Shirlee is survived by her five children; one son Calvin and wife Marlaine Carr of Dallas, Georgia and four daughters Deborah and husband Tim King of Harwich Port, MA, Alice and husband Ron Cohen of Boca Raton, Florida, Merlene Campbell of Whitinsville, and Donelda and husband Martin Turner of Holden, MA; 12 Grandchildren; Larry Bull, Nancy King, Jennifer King, Julie King, Caroline Zerbe, Sabrina Briggs and Kendra Macomber-Russell, Adam Cohen and Bradley Cohen, and Brett, Carrie and Lexi Campbell; 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a sister Joan Scott and brother Rick Cotter of Nova Scotia.
A funeral service will be held Saturday March 14 at 3 p.m. in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 61 Wood St. Hopkinton..
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Shirlee’s name to JHC Hospice 646 Salisbury St. Worcester, MA 01609.
The family thanks all the wonderful caregivers at Oakdale for taking such good care of Shirlee.
