FRAMINGHAM – Richard Caron of Framingham died peacefully on July 17, 2020, at the age of 80, while at Oak Knoll Healthcare Facility in Framingham.
He was born in Boston to Adolph “Duffy” Caron and Inez Ciamchette of Pittsfield Maine. He served honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. When he returned home he worked as security operations for Lechmere’s and other retail stores.
Before retiring he worked ten years as Section 8 Program Representative for South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC).
He was initiated into the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in Framingham in 1960. During his 61 years of dedicated service to the Elks Lodge 1264 he served as Exalted Ruler (Lodge President) in 1980. He was appointed District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler to the East Central District in 1968. He was named Elk of the year in 1993 and Officer of the Year in 2004 for his outstanding service as
Secretary to the Lodge. State President William Hopkins appointed Richard as State Chaplain in 2002. The Lodge awarded him Honorary Life Membership for his outstanding service.
One of his great accomplishments as an Elk was the writing of “The History of Framingham 1264” which began in 1911. This work was published in limited edition and included pictures of past Members that he found in the archives.
He is survived by his brother Robert Caron of Portland, Maine and his Nephew Jay and his wife Cheryl of Holliston. He is predeceased by his sister Elaine who passed away in April.
There are no services. Burial will take place at a later date when he and his sister will be buried in the family plot in Maine.
