UPDATED: Static Sparks Fire at Auto Body Shop in Framingham

FRAMINGHAM – Firefighters were able to extinguish a fire at an auto body shop, in about 30 minutes, on Friday afternoon, February 21.

Framingham Fire received an alert from Box 497 at 2:11 p.m., followed by a call from Framingham Police of a fire at 88 Blandin Avenue.

Engine 5, Engine 1, Rescue 1, Ladder 3, and Command 2 responded to the fire Exception Auto Body.

Upon “arrival ladder 3 reported fire from the roof,” said Framingham Acting Fire Chief Michael Dutcher.

“Crews made an aggressive attack on fire and extinguished in approximately 30 minutes,” said the fire chief.

There were no injuries.

The business was able to re-open in unaffected areas, said Chief Dutcher.

“Cause was determined to be static discharge in spray booth, with fire extending to ventilation system and roof,” explained Chief Dutcher.

“Early notification by workers and great work by fire crews kept fire contained to area of origin,” said Chief Dutcher.

Blandin Avenue was closed for a while fire crews worked. MWRTA buses were re-routed.
