AAA: Gas Prices 80 Cents Lower Than 2019 Prices

FRAMINGHAM – Gasoline prices in Massachusetts are up one cent this week, according to AAA Northeast, which has an office in Framingham off Route 9.

AAA Northeast’s June 1 survey of prices in Massachusetts finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $1.95 per gallon.

Massachusetts’s price is two cents below the national average of $1.97.

A year ago at this time, the average price in Massachusetts was 80 cents higher at $2.75 per gallon.

Part of the incremental jump can be attributed to increases in gasoline demand nationally, which saw a 7% week-over-week increase. However, demand is still down nearly 25% compared to last year, according to the Energy Information Administration’s (EIA) latest reports.

 “Americans are slowly but steadily returning to driving, causing gas prices to increase across the country,” said Mary Maguire, AAA Northeast Director, Public and Legislative Affairs. “The good news is gas is still cheap. Motorists can fill-up for $2/gallon or less at 70% of gas stations across the country.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 72 cents, from a low of $1.67 to a high of $2.39. AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area.
