NATICK – With the flood lights shining on Memorial Field, the Natick Redhawks and the Framingham Flyers varsity girls field hockey took to the field last night, October 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Redhawks put the first point on the score board when Olivia Norchi scored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natick was called on a penalty, leaving the Flyers at an advantage on the field. Despite the upper hand, Natick’s Colleen Hava sent in a strike past the goalkeeper and picked up the second goal of the game. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second period, the Redhawks peppered the Flyers goalkeeper with many scoring attempts but Framingham\u2019s defense managed to hold them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The game remained 2-0 leading into the second half of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natick immediately opened the third frame with its third goal after Anna Schmidt finished off a pass and found the back of the net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the finale period, the Redhawks extended their lead 4-0 just over a minute into the frame when Addie Robie blasted one into the net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Flyers managed to score the last goal of the night after Mackenzie Coleman connected with the back of the net for the 4-1 final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natick’s Brooke Spiegel said \u201cWe were using the whole space of the field and sending bigger balls into the circle of the tip which we have been fielding a lot in practice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natick High Head Coach Ann Burnes said she sees the confidence growing in her team each game they play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think we try to practice how we play. We have a really busy end of the season so we really don\u2019t have a lot of practice time. Now the work we have put in up to this point is most important,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Framingham Flyer Natalie Stevens said despite the frustrating loss she and her team know what they have to do in preparation for the next game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey moved around the field a lot. It was hard to adapt to sticking to their players and playing one-on-one, but we did what we could,\u201d said Stevens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flyers head coach, Ellen Sowa, said she saw much improvement from her team executing together on the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe never give up. That\u2019s the one thing I can say about this team,\u201d she said. \u201cEvery game they get more confident and they work well and communicate well together even though we aren’t getting it in the net.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Flyers will host the Raiders of Wellesley High next on Monday, October 17 at Phil Read Field at 3:45 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Framingham is 0-7-1 overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She joined the Framingham State cheerleading team freshman year and recently won the 2022 National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) National Championship for the first time in Framingham State history.
