{"id":74993,"date":"2022-06-28T10:15:00","date_gmt":"2022-06-28T14:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/?p=74993"},"modified":"2022-06-28T12:56:30","modified_gmt":"2022-06-28T16:56:30","slug":"lake-waushakum-to-be-treated-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/index.php\/2022\/06\/28\/lake-waushakum-to-be-treated-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Lake Waushakum To Be Treated Today"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;59945&#8243;]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FRAMINGHAM &#8211; A contractor for the City is treating Lake Waushakum today, June 28,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;A recent sample showed elevated levels of cyanobacteria,&#8221; according to the City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Per the Mayor\u2019s initiative to address water quality at Framingham\u2019s beaches&#8221; the City &#8220;will be treating Waushakum with a copper algaecide&#8221; as a &#8220;preventative measure to avoid a cyanobacteria bloom that could be harmful to human\/animal health.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Framingham notified Ashland of the treatment and the Waushakum Pond Association. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A sign was expected to go up at the beach today, June 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;59946&#8243;]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the State &#8220;Cyanobacteria (sometimes called blue-green algae) occur naturally in freshwater, but under certain conditions they can multiply quickly, creating a highly concentrated area known as an algae bloom. Algae blooms can be harmful to humans and animals. Some harmful cyanobacteria produce toxins (known as cyanotoxins) that are dangerous at very low levels in surface waterbodies.
