FRAMINGHAM – A Framingham restaurant will lose its all-alcohol license for 4 days, after caught serving a minor at the end of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Framingham License Commission voted unanimously on Monday, may 23, to suspend the all-alcohol license for Tropical Cafe at 85 Hollis Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The suspension must be served within the next 30 days, and the four days must be served consecutively, with at least one day a Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at about 2:22 p.m., an underage individual working with Framingham Police entered the restaurant and ordered a Corona bottle of beer, according to Framingham Police Lt. Tom McCarthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The waitress did not ask for identification and served the beer, which cost $5.97, said Lt. McCarthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the second time Tropical Island LLC, doing business as Tropical Cafe, failed an alcohol license sting, in the past 6 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last time was in 2016, said Lt. McCarthy. in 2017, the Board of Selectman levied a 2-day all alcohol license suspension for the establishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time, Framingham Police lieutenant recommended a 3-day alcohol license suspension plus one day to be held in abeyance for one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In September 2021, an assault happened at the restaurant as well, said Lt. McCarthy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That incident resulted in a one-day all-alcohol license suspension held in abeyance for one-year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since another incident happened within one year of the September 2021 assault, the Commission was asked to approve a 4-day consecutive license suspension plus 1 day held in abeyance for 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vote past 4-0, with Commission Laura Medrano not in attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tropical Island LLC manager Solange Moura agreed not to appeal the decision and also agreed to a $300 fine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If Tropical Cafe opts to remain open when the license suspension happens, it must either cover or remove the alcohol from 85 Hollis Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The four days of the alcohol license suspension are still to be determined, but must be within the next 30 days and include a Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
