{"id":61808,"date":"2022-02-09T17:14:34","date_gmt":"2022-02-09T22:14:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/?p=61808"},"modified":"2022-02-09T17:14:35","modified_gmt":"2022-02-09T22:14:35","slug":"framingham-history-center-releases-new-resource-focused-on-bipoc-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/index.php\/2022\/02\/09\/framingham-history-center-releases-new-resource-focused-on-bipoc-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Framingham History Center Releases New Resource Focused on BIPOC History"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>In full transparency, the following is a press release from the Framingham History Center submitted to SOURCE media (photo submitted also).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>***<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"420\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/april.events.source.house_.ad_.2020-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25\" srcset=\"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/april.events.source.house_.ad_.2020-1.png 420w, https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/april.events.source.house_.ad_.2020-1-207x300.png 207w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;53130&#8243;]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FRAMINGHAM &#8211; The Framingham History Center has completed a new project to increase the accessibility of collections relating to BIPOC stories from 1600-1800.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year-long project, which began in December 2020 was funded by the Sudbury Foundation Racial Equity Mini Grant program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Center contracted Mary McNeil,\u00a0a PhD Candidate at Harvard University, as a Scholar-in-Residence to create a finding aid of collections relating to\u00a0<em>Framingham\u2019s People of Color from 1600-1800<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Completed in December 2021, this 16-page document provides a comprehensive overview of the Center\u2019s collections as they pertain to the lives of 17th and 18th century\u00a0Black and Indigenous persons living within and around the bounds of present-day Framingham. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;58610&#8243;]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first of its kind for this institution, it is a cross-collection finding\u00a0aid that seeks to assist the public in learning more about Black and Indigenous persons who lived and labored in the area in varying states of freedom\/unfreedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis is an incredibly exciting resource to have in our arsenal,\u201d said Center Curator Stacen Goldman, \u201cThe stories of Black and Indigenous people during this time period\u00a0are frequently hidden or hard to find in archival collections like ours.
