{"id":5642,"date":"2020-04-10T12:24:28","date_gmt":"2020-04-10T16:24:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/?p=5642"},"modified":"2020-04-10T12:26:53","modified_gmt":"2020-04-10T16:26:53","slug":"mass-attorney-generals-office-issues-tips-for-safe-video-conferencing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/index.php\/2020\/04\/10\/mass-attorney-generals-office-issues-tips-for-safe-video-conferencing\/","title":{"rendered":"Mass Attorney General&#8217;s Office Issues Tips For Safe Video Conferencing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>The following is a media release from the Massachusetts Attorney General&#8217;s office submitted to SOURCE media.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>***<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BOSTON\u00a0\u2013\u00a0In response to reports of privacy and security issues with the video conferencing platform Zoom, Attorney General Maura Healey today, April 10, issued an advisory with recommendations for members of the public to practice safe video conferencing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs more people turn to video conferencing to stay connected during this public health emergency, we should all take steps to protect our privacy and security,\u201d said Healey. \u201cWe encourage the public to stay safe while chatting with friends, family, classmates and colleagues over video platforms like Zoom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;51611&#8243;]<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The AG\u2019s Office is recommending the public follow these tips to protect themselves from a new form of harassment known as \u201cZoombombing\u201d by which intruders hijack video calls and post hate speech and offensive images:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Don\u2019t make meetings public<\/strong>. Users that want to host a Zoom meeting should make the meeting private by requiring a meeting password or using the platform\u2019s waiting room feature to control who is and isn\u2019t allowed to enter the meeting. Information on how to do this can be found on Zoom\u2019s\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/docs\/en-us\/covid19.html\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;59982&#8243;]<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Don\u2019t share a link to a conference publicly.<\/strong>&nbsp;Posting a link to a meeting on an unrestricted, publicly available website or on social media may open the door for unwanted guests to join the meeting. Provide the link directly to the guests you want to invite and ask them not to share it with others you don\u2019t want invited.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Manage screensharing options<\/strong>. In Zoom, change screensharing to \u201cHost Only.\u201d<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Make sure you\u2019re using the most up-to-date software.<\/strong>\u00a0In January 2020, Zoom updated their software to add passwords requirements for meetings and disabled a feature that allowed users to randomly scan for meetings to join. To ensure you don\u2019t fall victim to unwanted guests, update your software to the most recent version. Only download Zoom\u2019s software from its official\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>\u00a0or, for mobile devices, the Apple\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/zoom-cloud-meetings\/id546505307\" target=\"_blank\">App Store<\/a>\u00a0or Google Play.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;52093&#8243;]<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Check to make sure the highest security settings are applied to the video conference platform you\u2019re using.<\/strong>&nbsp;If you\u2019re using Zoom or a similar platform while working remotely, consult your employer\u2019s IT department to ensure that your organization allows for use of Zoom for business purposes and to address additional requirements for physical and information security.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Educators should check with their school administration about how to use Zoom for online lessons.<\/strong>\u00a0Zoom has offered more information for educators\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/docs\/en-us\/covid19.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"455\" height=\"655\" src=\"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/virus.food_.source.house_.ad_.2020.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3730\" srcset=\"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/virus.food_.source.house_.ad_.2020.jpg 455w, https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/virus.food_.source.house_.ad_.2020-208x300.jpg 208w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Those who experience video or teleconference hijacking or any cyber-crime can report it to the FBI\u2019s Internet Crime Complaint Center at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ic3.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ic3.gov<\/a>.
