FRAMINGHAM – Wednesday morning, September 1, buses will pull up to the new Fuller Middle School unloading the first students to enter the newly-constructed school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taxpayers gave their approval to the project via an override vote in December 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The $98.3 million middle school project broke ground in June 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school district is receiving a grant from the state for approximately $39.5 million towards the news school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

City of Framingham Building Commissioner Michael Tusino said the school received a “full Occupancy Permit.” The state’s elevator inspector approved the elevator and all other city departments have signed off on the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The school is a long time coming, as discussions about a new Fuller Middle School began more than 15 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fuller Middle School Principal Kerry Wood said she is anticipating 620 students for the first day of school. Students at Fuller Middle will be in grades 6-7-8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The feeder schools for Fuller are Brophy Elementary, McCarthy Elementary, and King Elementary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are extremely excited about our first day of school in our new building. Students will be participating in community building activities and will be given opportunities to explore their new school throughout the day,” said Principal Wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“”Given the many connections I have to Fuller Middle School as a parent and a public official, I am extremely excited for the first day of school and I’m sure that seeing the Fuller students welcomed into their new home will be the highlight of my time on the School Committee,” said School Committee member Scott Wadland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“From standing on the town common with renderings of the new building just three years ago, it’s incredible to see that this amazing 21st-century facility is now substantially complete and ready for use.  The project has been a wonderful example of collaboration between the School Building Committee and the design and construction teams, with ongoing support from the City Council, the School Committee, and numerous other bodies within the city.  Every person who had a hand in making this project happen should feel the same pride and joy that I do in seeing our plans come to fruition.  There is still work to be done including the demolition of the old school and the final sitework – including the installation of two artificial turf fields – but today is truly a joyous day for our community,” said Wadland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While September 1 is the first visit for students, teachers and staff have been preparing the school for more than a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And many school officials, and elected leaders, and even SOURCE toured the school during its construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As I walked into the front entrance of the new Fuller Middle School for the first time, I felt gratitude, joy, and pride,” said Adam Freudberg, School Committee Chair, District 4. “To me, this project symbolizes so much as a community wide effort that brought people together for the positive and simple common cause to support public education in our city. I am so impressed with the results after years of planning and management by the School Building Committee, Framingham Public Schools, and construction vendors. The agility the team showed by leading the project before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, with all of the challenges, should be commended.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n


“The new Fuller Middle School is a reflection of how much the City of Framingham values its children,\u00a0 their education, and its teachers.\u00a0 The natural light that pours into the new school will nurture intellectual curiosity and creativity in all of our students. As a school community, we are proud of our new space and excited for what the future holds,” said Principal Wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The public can tour the school on Sunday, September 26. A grand opening celebration is planning for 1 to 4 p.m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
