FRAMINGHAM – Framingham grew by almost 6% over the last decade, according to the U.S. Census Bureas, which release new data from the 2020 census today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2010, the Town of Framingham had a population of 68,323.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020, the City of Framingham had a population of 72,362, a growth of 4.039 individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But that number is lower than the Census Bureau’s estimate for the City of Framingham, which was 74,.416.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Framingham was the only city in the Commonwealth in the top 20 to be significantly lower than the census estimate, except for Boston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, the Commonwealth saw a modest increase in population to 7.03 millions people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2020 census took place during the pandemic. Some demographic experts have said that may have impacted the counts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One other issue demographers have noted is that many individuals chose to check the “multi” race box this time around, more than in 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Framingham’s white population significantly decreased due to that fact from 44,625 to 38,855. The multi population increase from 2,595 to 6.308.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The largest increase in population was among Latinos from 9,161 to 12,171. The Asian population also increase from 4,302 to 5.233. Black individuals also increase from 3,446 to 4,248.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nationally, the Asian population, followed by Latinos saw a huge jump, as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
