Spilka and House Speaker Ronald Mariano in a joint statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;59945&#8243;]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Senate and the House expect to include this in already moving legislation\u00a0that addresses emergency paid leave, unemployment insurance, and\u00a0tax relief on forgiven\u00a0PPP\u00a0loans. This tax flexibility, which was also authorized last year by the Legislature, will provide stability and ensure residents have time to prepare and file as we continue to weather the impacts of the pandemic,&#8217; said the two legislative leaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Baker-Polito administration has not made a statement yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individual taxpayers can also postpone federal income tax payments for the 2020 tax year due on April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021, without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount owed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This postponement applies to individual taxpayers, including individuals who pay self-employment tax. Penalties, interest and additions to tax will begin to accrue on any remaining unpaid balances as of May 17, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"486\" height=\"606\" src=\"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/taxes.source.house_.ad_.2020.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/taxes.source.house_.ad_.2020.png 486w, https:\/\/framinghamsource.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/taxes.source.house_.ad_.2020-241x300.png 241w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 486px) 100vw, 486px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Individual taxpayers will automatically avoid interest and penalties on the taxes paid by May 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IRS urges taxpayers who are due a refund to file as soon as possible. Most tax refunds associated with e-filed returns are issued within 21 days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This relief does not apply to estimated tax payments that are due on April 15, 2021.
