This week is my last week on the job,&#8221; wrote Wong in an email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Samuel S. Wong, Director of Framingham\u2019s Public Health Department, will take medical leave, and his last day in the office is Thursday, December 31,&#8221; said the press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The news media outlet asked the City&#8217;s spokesperson if Mayor Yvonne Spicer did not accept Dr. Wong&#8217;s resignation, and the city spokesperson responded &#8220;He is taking medical leave. DePalo (current Assistant Director) will serve in Dr. Wong\u2019s stead, said the press release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hired in August 2017, by Town Manager Bob Halpin and the then-Framingham Board of Selectmen, Wong previously worked for the Town of Hudson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;59948&#8243;]<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wong served as  President of the Massachusetts Health Officers Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> Dr. Wong is a scholar with the Northeast Public Health Leadership Institute and earned his graduate degrees from the University of Rhode Island. He is a gubernatorial appointed Council Member for both the Metropolitan Area Planning Council and the Massachusetts Food Policy Council and serves on many statewide committees including the Special Commission on Local &amp; Regional Health, Community Advisory Board of Harvard Catalyst, and Massachusetts Cancer Research Roundtable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Wong has been recognized a number of times through the years for his work in public health. He has been the recipient of a number of state and regional awards, including the Deborah Blumer Community Health Leadership Award from the MetroWest Health Foundation and the John D.
