FRAMINGHAM – Voices Against Violence (VAV), the domestic violence agency and rape crisis center serving 14 communities in the greater Framingham and Marlborough areas of Metro West, will host a virtual edition of its 9th annual Purple Passion 5K Walk\/Run fundraiser beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 19 in support of the organization\u2019s mission to support survivors and end sexual and domestic violence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Valerie Mulvey, former Framingham City Clerk, is once again the 2020 Honorary Chair of the event. \u201cWhile COVID-19 has certainly forced us to reimagine this family-friendly fundraising event for 2020, the real issue continues to be the devastating impact this pandemic is having for so many victims of domestic violence in our community who remain isolated alongside someone who may be the abuser,\u201d said Voices Against Violence Director Patricia Hohl. \u201cOur work to protect victims of sexual and domestic violence is more critical than ever and we are so grateful to all those who support this work by registering, fundraising, and sponsoring this event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Event participants are able to fundraise through their own Purple Passion fundraising page they\u2019ll have access to upon registration. They can also create teams to expand their impact and have a little friendly fundraising competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following tradition, the 2020 Purple Passion fundraiser will feature a timed 5K race and casual run, as well as a 3K walk. But this year, runners and walkers can participate from anywhere \u2013 from a treadmill at home, to a local track, to a favorite bike path or trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a $30 registration fee for all timed runners and a $25 registration fee for casual runners and walkers. Children under 10 can also participate for free and the first 200 registrants will receive a free Purple Passion tee shirt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medals will be awarded to the top male and female timed runners as well as to the top male and female runners in 14 age categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Voices Against Violence, a program of the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC) serves over 5,600 people each year through their direct services for victims and prevention programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
