Markey (D-Mass.) sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which has assembled a team to advise on the implementation of the\u00a0<em>Taxpayer First Act of 2019 (TFA)<\/em>, urging the IRS to immediately add a representative from the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;58610&#8243;]<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>TAS is a federal office that represents\u00a0the voice of taxpayers at the IRS\u00a0and whose work helped inform the\u00a0<em>Taxpayer First Act<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The law includes more than two dozen provisions supported or encouraged by the TAS; however, the IRS&#8217;s current\u00a0<em>TFA<\/em>\u00a0implementation team does not include a TAS advocate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <strong>[broadstreet zone=&#8221;70107&#8243;]<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The exclusion of TAS from the core\u00a0<em>Taxpayer First Act<\/em>\u00a0implementation team deprives the office of crucial expertise and denies taxpayers their institutional voice in charting implementation of legislation TAS helped craft,&#8221;\u00a0the lawmakers wrote. &#8220;The clearest route to bring the voice of taxpayers into the implementation of the\u00a0<em>Taxpayer First Act\u00a0<\/em>and to &#8216;get it right&#8217; is to ensure that the Taxpayer Advocate Service is substantively involved in the implementation process.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawmakers have requested that the IRS respond to their letter no later than March 5, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The following is a media release from Sen.
