FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham Parks and Recreation Department is planning on holding its Concerts on the Common this year, city staff told the Framingham Parks & Recreation Commission Wednesday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But concerns have been raised about the concerts regular location at the Framingham Centre Common, off Edgell Road, due to social distancing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trisha Powell, the Framingham Superintendent of Recreation, said that “everything [related to the Concerts] has been canceled through July 10.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said the department is looking into alternatives to be able to still hire the bands for the rest of July and August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the alternatives suggested at Wednesday night’s Parks and Recreation meeting was to hold them at Cushing Memorial Park instead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plan would be to have the concerts function similar to a drive-in movie theater where cars can drive into specified parking spaces to watch the concert. They would also allow concertgoers to tailgate as long as social distancing guidelines are kept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the locations that Parks & Rec Department has looked at was the field behind the maintenance building on the Winter Street side, where the annual Pumpkins in the Park is held. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another location would have the Department utilizing the parking lot closest to Keefe Tech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department is still in the planning phases for the concert project and needs approval by the Framingham Board of Health before they can go ahead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Powell also stated that if “they get the green light to go ahead by the state, then [they] will switch back to the Common for the rest of the concert season.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first Concert on the Common each season is typically in late June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
