MassBay Community College will hold a free cyberthreat prevention webinar for teens, families, and older adults on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The online workshop, “Two Generations, One Digital World: Protecting Teens, Families, and Adults from Online Threats” will provide practical guidance for individuals of all ages to protect themselves in the digital landscape.
From social media and gaming platforms to messaging apps and online dating sites, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, sextortion, social media impersonation, AI-generated explicit images, and online harassment continue to pose serious risks. Community members must stay educated and vigilant about cyberthreats.
Participants will explore real-world examples involving teens target through fake Instagram accounts, group chat bullying sextortion schemes demanding money after private images were shared, and AI tools used to create fabricated explicit photos of students. This webinar will also examine cybercrime cases involving adults, including romance scams that escalated into blackmail, fake profiles impersonating widowed veterans, scammers posing as grandchildren in distress, and persistent harassment through repeated unwanted contact. MassBay is the first and only institution of higher education in Massachusetts to offer an associate degree in cybersecurity. The College’s cybersecurity program has earned designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD) by the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) and was recognized by the White House as a model program during the launch of the Biden-Harris Administration’s National Cyber Workforce and Education Strategy. In fall 2023, MassBay received $804,162 from the Healey-Driscoll Administration as part of a $1.4 million statewide investment to expand cybersecurity training. These funds enabled the College to launch its state-of-the-art cyber range, providing a virtual environment for hands-on learning in detecting and stopping simulated cyberattacks.
