George A. Stankevicius, 84, of Natick, Massachusetts, passed away on March 4, 2026, in Framingham, Massachusetts, following a courageous battle with cancer.

George was born on August 30, 1941, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Anna (Davulis) Stankevicius and Frank Stankevicius Sr. He grew up in South Boston, where he graduated from South Boston High School before continuing his education at Franklin Technical Institute where he received an associates degree in engineering.

In 1965, George married his wife, Nijole (Jurgelevicius). The two shared more than sixty years of marriage together. In 1966, they welcomed their daughter, Donna, and later settled in Natick, Massachusetts.

George worked for many years as a Satellite Communications Engineer for GTE Sylvania. His career brought him across the United States and around the world. Among the many places he visited, some of his favorites included the Dominican Republic, Hong Kong, and Holland. Yet the places closest to his heart were Lithuania and the state of Maine.

Every summer, George made his beloved trip to Wheaton’s Lodge in Maine with his best friend, Ed, for their annual fishing excursion. It was a tradition he cherished deeply and never missed. Even in the weeks leading up to his passing, George spoke hopefully about making one more trip this year. Over the years, he formed lasting friendships at the lodge and always spoke highly of the people he met there.

George also spent many summers traveling to Lithuania with his family. Genealogy was one of his passions, and he took great pride in researching his family history. Through his efforts, he located numerous extended relatives and made it a point to visit them. In a fondly recalled memory, George would even look up people with the last name “Stankevicius” in the phone book and call them to see if they might be related.

A present father and grandfather, George loved supporting his family. He attended Donna’s Lithuanian Folk Dance Festivals and was always willing to volunteer his time, whether that meant driving to performances or making potato pancakes for the New England Folk Festival at Natick High School. He took great joy in teaching his grandchildren about their Lithuanian heritage and proudly attended their graduations, performances, and milestones.

George was also an avid animal lover who welcomed many dogs and cats into his life over the years. He enjoyed spending time with his two cats, Henry and Katyte. In addition, he was a talented photographer who enjoyed capturing the world around him in photos and in videos.

George is survived by his wife, Nijole Stankevicius of Natick; his daughter, Donna Green of Framingham; and his grandchildren, Laura, Olivia, and Thomas Green, all of Framingham. He was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Stankevicius Jr., and his sister-in-law, Ellen Stankevicius of Walpole.

George will be remembered for his honesty, humor, devotion to family, pride in his Lithuanian heritage, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life.

Family and friends are invited to honor and remember George’s life by gathering for a time of visitation in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Saturday, March 21st from 11AM-1PM. Followed by a prayer service at 1 o’clock. Those attending the services are encouraged to wear something that honors or reflects Lithuanian heritage.

Attendees are invited by the family to join them at the conclusion of services at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles at 55 Park St in Framingham.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Boston Lithuanian Citizens’ Association (https://www.sblca.org ) or the Buddy Dog Humane Society (https://www.buddydoghs.org) in George’s memory.
