Thomas J. McGary, Jr.

Thomas J. McGary, Jr., 82, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Monday, February 23, 2026 after a period of declining health. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Thomas J. & Mary Catherine (McManus) McGary, and the beloved husband of Florence R. (Cannon) McGary.

Raised and educated in Catholic Schools in Brighton, Tom went on to meet the love of his life, Florence, they married and settled in Framingham. Tom enjoyed a long career with the MBTA starting out as a trolley driver and making his way to management prior to his retirement. He then went on to work as a bus driver in Framingham for almost 20 years.

Not one to sit still, Tom had many hobbies, he researched family genealogy, enjoyed woodworking projects, and his love of trolleys turned into making models of them and attending the yearly train show in Springfield. He even built and maintained a website devoted to the people he had worked with at the MBTA over the years, https://reservoirmemoris.com/.

For many years Tom played softball on leagues with friends from the MBTA. He loved vacationing, especially on the Cape, and even bought a second home there. Selfless, and always putting others’ needs first, Tom was very sociable, often telling stories to family and friends. Tom was an avid Boston Sports Fan, especially the Patriots, Bruins and Red Sox.

Along with his wife Florence, Tom is survived by his children, Tom and Allison, his grandchildren, Amanda, Jess, and Brian, his brother, George, sisters and brothers in law, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his sister in law, Karen, and his brother in law, Paul Cannon.

Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Tom’s life by gathering for a time of visitation in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Tuesday morning, March 3^rd from 9 – 10:30AM. His Funeral Mass will follow in St. Bridget Church, 830 Worcester Rd. Framingham at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery.
