J Brooks McCarty, 67, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Sunday, February 1, 2026 after a period of declining health. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late William A. & Mary (Lewis) McCarty, and the beloved husband of Dorit (Haas) McCarty.
Brooks grew up in the Oaks neighborhood of Framingham. He has a particular love of waterskiing, fishing, and boating on Lake Cochituate with his friends. He was a graduate of Keefe Technical High School and enlisted in the Air Force shortly after serving his country for 8 years. It was while he was stationed in Germany that he met the love of his life, Dorit.
Together they settled in Framingham upon his return state side. Brooks worked as a Supervisor with the Department of Public Works, Framingham for many years. He was hardworking and took his job seriously.
A quiet man, but known for his sense of humor, Brooks enjoyed a good round of golf when he could with his siblings and buddies from Shining Rock.
Along with his wife Dorit, Brooks is survived by his siblings, Kendall of Waltham and Steven of Framingham, his nephews, Christopher and James, and his cousins, Kim of MD, Kit of SC, Steven of VT, Mary Jane of PA, and Jimmy of MD.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Brooks’ life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Saturday, February 21st from 12-3PM. Interment will be private. All are invited to continue celebrating Brooks’ life after the visitation at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 55 Park St. Framingham. (parking is permitted in the parking garage)
