We are extremely saddened to announce the passing of Josephine O. (Contigiani) Foster, 96, a lifelong resident of Framingham, and Mashpee on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. She was well loved by all who were blessed to know her. Daughter of the late John Contigiani and Sarah (Pascucci) & Ignatius Vitale, she was the beloved wife of the late Charles B. Foster for 63 years.
Jojo, as she was known, was raised and educated in Framingham where she was a 1947 graduate of Framingham High School. A skilled seamstress, she worked as milliner at the Hat Shop with her mother, and used those skills throughout her life, even starting a craft sewing business in her 50’s. Family and friends were often the beneficiaries of her sewing skills. In her later years, she worked as a hostess at La Cantina, John Harvard’s and Bertucci’s.
In 1951 she married the love of her life, Charles, at St. Tarcisius Church in Framingham and together they settled in Framingham, even building their own home. Josephine stayed home with the children until they were school age and later worked at the Framingham Credit Bureau.
She and Charlie were boaters at heart and enjoyed summers aboard the Crosswinds on the Vineyard. Members of Watertown Yacht Club, they vacationed with the many friends they made through the club.
As the family outgrew the boat, they built a family home in Mashpee, where they summered for 35 years. Nothing brought her more happiness than making memories with a houseful of family and friends.
Josephine was strong in her Catholic faith and had a strong devotion to the Blessed Mother. She loved everyone she knew and even those she met in passing. She enjoyed a lifelong friend group that met for coffee for years. More than anything, family was her priority. She was their number one fan, no matter the sport!
The definition of a matriarch, Josephine is survived by her children, Colleen Foster Maloney & her husband James, Charles Michael Foster & his wife Erin, and Kim Foster-Carroll & her husband Michael, her grandchildren, Kathleen Maloney Albiani & her husband Michael, Christine Spavento & her husband Michael, Lindsay Maloney Foley & her husband Nicholas, Courtney Bibbo & her husband Robert, Michael Foster, Cody Foster, Christian Carroll & his wife, Ali, Benjamin Carroll & his wife, Louisa, Eliza Carroll Bliss & her husband Ben, and Jordan Carroll, as well as 14 cherished great grandchildren.
