A Common Thread Theatre Company announces that Fun Home, the groundbreaking, Tony Award–winning musical, will open its 2025–26 season.
Based on Alison Bechdel’s graphic memoir, Fun Home tells a powerful and darkly funny story about family and identity. It explores the moments that shape who we become. In addition, the musical follows Bechdel as she reflects on her childhood, her coming out, and her relationship with her father.
Jeanine Tesori wrote the score, and Lisa Kron wrote the book and lyrics. Together, they created a show known for its honesty, warmth, and emotional impact. As a result, Fun Home has become one of the most celebrated musicals of the past decade.
Director Jacob Lavoie leads this production. With his vision, Fun Home becomes the first show in A Common Thread Theatre Company’s new season theme, Bold Stories and Fierce Voices.
“Fun Home is exactly the kind of story we believe in telling,” said Jaimee Banks, President of A Common Thread Theatre Company. “It is intimate, honest, and deeply human. Because of this, it reflects our mission to amplify diverse voices and create theatre that connects our community.”
The musical earned five Tony Awards in 2015, including Best Musical. Since then, audiences have praised it for its truthful look at LGBTQ+ identity and family life. Today, theatres across the world continue to produce it because its message still resonates.
