William L. Smith, 92, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Tuesday, January 13, 2026 after a period of declining health. Born in Newton, he was the son of the late Lawrence D. & Anna (MacDonald) Smith, and the beloved husband to Elizabeth A. (Whelan) Smith for 73 years.
Bill was raised and educated in Newton Upper Falls, and was a graduate of Boston College. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean war. Over the years, he worked for General Motors, and retired from the federal government in the Wage and Hour Division. He was blessed to have been able to retire at the age of 57 to help care for his grandchildren.
Guided by his Catholic faith, Bill was an usher at St. George Church in Saxonville, and volunteered for St. Vincent De Paul.
Along with his wife Elizabeth, Bill I survived by his daughters, Cheryl Phillips & her husband Bill, and Lisa Morin, his sons, William Jr., Gary, and Jeffrey & his wife Michelle, his grandchildren, Robert and Andrew Morin, Kayla Moreau & her husband Brett, Connor Smith, Matthew Smith, and Lindsay Conway, his great grandson, Barrett Moreau, his sisters in law, Carol Smith, Phyllis Whelan, Barbara Whelan, Louise Beatrice, Pauline Higgins, his brother in law, James Whelan, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his brother, Lawrence, and his sister, Lorraine Blaski & her husband Edward.
