William Thomas “Tom” Hoyt, 63, of Miami Beach, FL and formerly Framingham, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025 after a four year struggle with gall bladder cancer. He died at his brother’s house in St. Pete Beach, FL with several family members by his side, and the sun rising.
Tom was born in Lewiston Maine on October 17, 1962 to the late Arthur Bracket and Pierrette Marie (Benoit) Hoyt. Before moving to South Beach, Tom was a long-time resident of San Diego CA. Tom grew up in Framingham MA and was a member of the Framingham South High swim team. He graduated from Brown University in 1984 with a degree in international relations and languages. Tom spoke several languages fluently and was functional in many more. He had detailed knowledge of geography and history, so it was no surprise that he had a successful career in international sales and was always a great travel companion, sometimes referred to as “Tommy Tour-Guide.”
Tom was a life-long bachelor, and treated his nieces and nephews as his own, literally – he would regularly watch “Nanny 911,” tell us he knew everything there was to know about raising children, and explain to us what we were doing wrong. We swallowed our pride, knowing that he loved those kids as his own, and they will be a wonderful legacy for Tom.
Tom’s second family was his friends. He made life-long attachments in a cave in San Diego that stayed with him to the very end. After his diagnosis, he held a series of destination birthday parties – Key Largo, Amsterdam, Puerta Vallarta, and most recently Key West. The parties were always fun thanks to the San Diego gang, and Tom’s friends from Framingham, Brown and his work all over the world.
Tom is survived by his brothers Ted and Bob, their wives Carrie and Karen, his nieces Hannah, Ellora, and Olivia, and his nephews Jack and Ryan. He is also survived by Tante Pat and Tante Lise, many cousins and their children and grandchildren, and by Safta and her family. He is predeceased by his parents, many uncles and aunts, and by Rejean and Adi, with whom we hope he is sharing all the love and stories and complaints he shared with us here on earth. He will be missed.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Tom’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Friday, December 5th from 4-8PM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Bridget Church, 830 Worcester Rd. Framingham on Saturday morning at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery.
