MetroWest Medical Center is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Joint Commission Certificate of Distinction for Healthcare Equity, recognizing the hospital’s leadership and commitment to providing equitable, high-quality care for all members of its diverse community.
This national certification acknowledges hospitals that demonstrate measurable efforts to identify and address healthcare disparities, ensuring every patient—regardless of background, language, or socioeconomic status—receives care that is fair, respectful, and responsive to individual needs.
“This certification reflects the dedication of our entire team,” said Neil Wallis, Associate Administrator at MetroWest Medical Center. “Every day, our nurses, physicians, and staff work to ensure each patient is seen, heard, and cared for with respect. Recognition like this isn’t a finish line for us, it’s a marker that we’re moving in the right direction.”
As part of this commitment, MetroWest continues to strengthen its focus on health equity through initiatives such as placing interpreter devices in every patient care room within the Emergency Department. These devices allow caregivers to communicate with patients in their preferred language immediately, improving understanding, supporting clinical accuracy, and reducing delays in care.
While the certification is an important milestone, MetroWest Medical Center remains focused on continuous improvement.
“We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, but our work continues,” said Greg McFarland, MetroWest Medical Center CEO. “Our goal is to ensure every person who walks through our doors receives compassionate, accessible, and equitable care, because that’s what our community deserves.”
