Margaret A. (Hartigan) Hine, known as Peg, 93, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Tuesday, October 28, 2025 with her family at her side. Born in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. & Ann (Callaghan) Hartigan, and the beloved wife of the late Henry H. Hine.
Peg is survived by her children, Tom, Carolyn (and her husband Tom) and Amy Hine, and her grandchildren, Roman Maguire, Charlotte Hine, and Eric Hine.
She is predeceased by her older sister, Pat Kennedy of North Carolina.
Peg attended St. Bride’s grade school and Aquinas High School in Chicago. During her teenage years, she donated her time packing Red Cross first aid kits during WWII for soldiers in Europe. She went on to graduate from Marycrest College in Iowa with an associates degree. Margaret was the fastest typist in her class, typing 100 words per minute on a manual typewriter.
After college, she worked as an administrative assistant at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago when it was owned by Joe Kennedy Sr. and had many tales about the Kennedy family and their escapades. Peg met the love of her life, Henry, at a young republicans social hour in the windy city when he was there traveling on business. They married and settled in Philadelphia to raise their family, later relocating to Framingham in 1963.
Peg was known for her fierce dedication in many areas of her life. She was a staunch advocate for the developmentally disabled as demonstrated by her lifelong fight for equity for her youngest daughter, Amy, and others with disabilities.
Peg had an unswerving devotion to her Catholic faith which served her throughout her life.
She had abundant energy; Peg was an avid golfer and learned to ski at the age of 45, developing the most graceful parallel turns in the family.
Peg was high-spirited and loved any kind of celebration, be it with family, friends or neighbors. In her last days of life, she invited many people to her funeral, and told all that it was to be an uplifting event.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Margaret’s life by gathering for a time of visitation in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Saturday, November 15th from 9-11AM. A prayer service will begin at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery, Framingham.
