Richard ‘Dick’ Sebastian, a lifelong resident of Framingham, passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 27, 1932, to the late Pasqualino and Alma (Anderson) Sebastian. For 69 years, he was the loving husband of Judy (Johnson) Sebastian.
Dick attended Newton Trade School before entering the Navy in 1951. He served on the USS English during the Korean War. The Navy was a formative experience where he made lifelong friends. In the 1980s, he and Judy enjoyed attending Tin Can Sailor and Naval reunion events throughout the country.
A skilled shoe repairman, for most of his career Dick worked at Waban Shoe, a shop founded by his father in 1926. His brothers were among his closest friends. The last of the Sebastian boys, he was predeceased by his brothers Albert, Gene, Robert (Buck), and Guy and by his sisters-in-law, Doris Sebastian, Sue Sebastiano, and Nancy Scardocci, and his brother-in-law, Phillip Johnson. He was also predeceased by his grandson, Ryan O. Sebastian.
A natural storyteller known for his wry humor, wit, and quick smile, Dick enjoyed family cookouts, neighborhood parties, going out to breakfast, and watching Boston sports teams. He was a wonderful father and a delighted grandfather, who shared his curiosity about the world with his children and grandchildren. Besides time spent with family, Dick enjoyed funny songs, watching a good western movie, and Christmas mornings.
In addition to his wife, Judy, he is survived by his four children, Rich Sebastian and his wife, Maria, of Shelbyville, TN, Ron Sebastian and his wife, Jeannie, of Ashland, MA, Karen Sebastian and her husband David Nauss, of Waltham, MA, and Laura Sebastian-Coleman and her husband, George, of Unionville, CT; his grandchildren Chris Brown, Heather Taddeo, Mariah Sebastian, Richard Sebastian-Coleman, and Janet Sebastian-Coleman; his four great-grandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Eleanor Sebastian, Ann Sebastian, Beverly Haskell and Judy Johnson; his brother-in-law, Sebastian Scardocci; and many nephews and nieces, for whom he was a favorite uncle.
