John J. “Jack” Cashman, 88, a longtime resident of Framingham and most recently Hopedale, who was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 11, 2025 after a period of declining health. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late John & Annie (Drake) Cashman, and the beloved husband of Marie (Michaud) Cashman.
Jack was raised and educated in Framingham where he graduated from Framingham High School. He served his country honorably in the United States Army, stationed in Germany. He and Marie raised their two daughters in Framingham, and Jack enjoyed a 32 year career as a Firefighter with the Framingham Fire Department.. As a side job, he worked for Door Systems Inc in Framingham. In his retirement, he and Marie enjoyed living in Wells, ME, and Port Charlotte, FL, moving back to Massachusetts in 2023 to be closer to family.
An honorable, soft spoken man with a great sense of humor, Jack was a hard worker and always kept busy. He loved landscaping and taking care of his pool. His yard was always groomed to perfection. Jack was always there to lend a hand to those that needed it with no expectations in return. He was truly one of a kind. If you ever spotted Jack on the dance floor he was a sight to see…the best “twister” around. In his later years, Jack found pleasure in taking walks with his wife, having daiquiri’s in his glider, completing the daily crossword, reading the newspaper, and playing Sudoku. He never wanted to be a bother to anyone, even in his final days; always considerate and thinking of others.
Besides his wife Marie, Jack is survived by his daughters, Colleen Wilkey & her husband Shawn of Lakeside, CA, and Claudine Spencer & her husband Robert of Whitinsville, MA, his grandchildren, Rie, Sean and Shane Wilkey, and Tyler and Cody Spencer, three great grandchildren. Also, his sister, Nancy Cullen, his sister in law, Patricia Cashman, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Jack was predeceased by his siblings, Donald Cashman, and Maureen Reed, and his brothers in law, Joseph Cullen, and Philip Read.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Salmon Hospice and Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough for their excellent care and compassion.
