FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham is alerting residents and motorists of upcoming road closures and detours due to necessary railroad track upgrades by CSX Transportation.
The work will require road closures and detours on Salem End Road starting August 5, and when that work is completed crews will move on to Maple Street for track improvements. All work is expected to be completed by August 8.
Residents will have access, but all other traffic will be detoured.
Salem End Road rail improvements
Closure Dates: Tuesday, August 5 through Wednesday, August 6 (including overnight hours)
- Location: Between Winter Street and Maynard Road
- Closure Start Time: 7 a.m. on August 5
- Expected Reopening: TBD on August 6, once track and paving work is complete
- Detours:
- Westbound Traffic: Main Street → Franklin Street → Maple Street → Winter Street → Salem End Road
- Eastbound Traffic: Reverse of the above, with an additional option via Winter Street → Route 9 → High Street off-ramp
- Closure Dates: Thursday, August 7 through Friday, August 8 (including overnight hours)
- Location: Between Winter Street and Franklin Street

Closure Start Time: 7 a.m. on August 7
Expected Reopening: TBD on August 8, once work is complete

- Franklin Street → Main Street → High Street → Salem End Road → Winter Street
- Franklin Street → Mount Wayte Avenue → Dudley Road → Dr. Harvey Cushing Way → Winter Street
- Eastbound Traffic: Reverse of the above routes
- Westbound Traffic: Two options based on approach:
Police details will be stationed on-site 24/7 throughout both closures to assist with traffic and ensure safety.
Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes and plan for additional travel time during these dates.
CSX said these improvements are vital for maintaining safe and reliable rail crossings in Framingham.
