FRAMINGHAM – Framingham State University is coordinating with local and state agencies to host an Active Attack Integrated Response (AAIR) Training on Tuesday, July 22nd and Wednesday, July 23rd.
Purpose of the Exercise
The training exercise, which is overseen by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety & Security, is designed to provide the FSU Police Department and other local emergency response agencies with the necessary knowledge, skills, and preparedness in the unlikely event of an active shooter incident. This exercise is part of FSU’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe and secure campus environment for our students, faculty, staff, and the surrounding community.
AAIR is a performance level course designed to improve integration between law enforcement, fire services, dispatch, and emergency medical services (EMS) during an active attack event. Police neutralize the threat and transition to indirect threat care, enabling fire and EMS to triage and provide medical aid. All students practice key medical skills, based on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) guidelines, to increase the survivability of victims. Through an integrated Incident Command System, students assemble and deploy Rescue Task Force(s) from a staging area into the crisis site to tactically access and rapidly evacuate the critically injured to definitive care. Communication is stressed during this reality-based training.”
What to Expect
The training will be held between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on July 22nd and 23rd. During this time, several emergency vehicles will be stationed in the Normal Hill parking lot and people in the area may observe emergency vehicles/personnel in and around Larned Hall and Henry Whittemore Library. Anyone in the area may also hear simulated gunfire and other loud noises.
These are simulated scenarios and not real threats. The exercise will be conducted in a controlled and supervised manner to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. Safety measures, including appropriate signage and controlled access to the exercise area, will be implemented to maintain a safe environment for everyone on campus.
Questions regarding the training can be directed to Framingham State Police Sgt. Harpreet Singh at hsingh@framingham.edu or 508-626-4911.
