David James McGrath, 84, of Framingham, MA peacefully passed away on April 14, 2025, at Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland. Dave was born on September 10, 1940, in Dorchester, Massachusetts. He was the son of the late James C. and Agnes (Loughery) McGrath and husband of the late Susan (Beavis) McGrath.

Dave graduated from Framingham High School in 1958. After graduation, Dave attended WPI in Worcester, MA. He then attended Boston College receiving his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1968, graduating magna cum laude. After graduation he worked 20 years for Ford Motor Company. Next, he worked 2 years for Suburban Ostomy Supply Company. Dave then worked 21 years as Materials Manager for the MBTA prior to his retirement in 2005.

Dave was known for having a caring heart. He was always looking for ways to help and serve others. He served as Scoutmaster of Troop 8 for many years as well as a Framingham Little League and Babe Ruth Coach. He served as a Eucharistic Minister and CCD teacher at St. Jeremiah’s parish in Framingham. Later, he was communicant and served on the parish council at St. George’s church in Framingham as well as being an active member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was also an active member of the Lions Club of Framingham. Dave also belonged to several professional organizations. Dave loved to bowl and was a member of several bowling leagues including St. Tarcisius in Framingham. He enjoyed playing cribbage and spending quality time with friends and family. He loved and excelled being a Dad and was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather (“Grampy”).

With Sue, his wife of 51 years, they had three children who survived them: Joanie McGrath of Falmouth, MA, Shaun McGrath of Fitchburg, MA, and former spouse Denise Demrest of Uxbridge, MA, and Christopher and wife Michelle (St.Cyr) McGrath of Warren, MA.  His beautiful legacy includes nine grandchildren: Crystal, Joseph (predeceased), Kristin (predeceased), Andrew, Rachel, Erin, Liam, Emma, and Benjamin and three great grandchildren: Reagan, Riley and Decklyn. He is survived by sister Jeannie Walker of Ashland, MA, and brother Michael McGrath of Vermont and predeceased by sister Carol (McGrath) Baker of CA. In addition, Dave was an uncle to many nephews and nieces. Dave is also survived by his companion of later years, Judith (Walker) Richardson of Framingham.

Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Dave’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Thursday, May 1st from 4-7PM.  His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning in St. George Church, 74 School St. Framingham at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, Framingham.
