Rena A. (Abravenel) Greenup, 88, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Sunday, March 2, 2025 after a period of declining health.  Born in Greece, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mitza (Rosencrantz) Abravanel, and the beloved wife of the late Ray William Greenup who died in 2021.

Rena came to the US to attend college in MI where she met the love of her life Ray.  She became an English as a second language teacher, speaking English, Greek, Spanish, and French herself. She truly understood how new people to the country felt, and always loved learning new things herself.

Rena loved the ocean and she and Ray purchased a 155 year old cottage on Martha’s Vineyard.  Her schedule as a teacher allowing her to enjoy summers on the Vineyard where she would spend time gardening and on the beach. In her later years she and Ray enjoyed square dancing, circle dancing, ball room dancing and quilting.

Rena is survived by her children, Ryan, Reva, and Ray Joseph, and her grandchildren, Alay Ray and Katrina Newcomer.

Family and friends will honor and remember Rena’s life by gathering for a time of visitation in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Wednesday, March 12th at noon. Followed by her funeral service at 1PM.  Interment will be private.
