FRAMINGHAM — Framingham State University’s Corporate Readiness 101 Academy (CR1A) has been honored as an Inspiring Program in Business by INSIGHT Into Diversity Magazine for its commitment to preparing students for the workforce through an innovative, culturally diverse curriculum.

Unlike traditional internship or job-shadowing programs, CR1A does not just partner with corporations; it builds meaningful relationships with industry leaders to cultivate student career pathways. The academy is uniquely designed with a culturally responsive curriculum and led by a diverse team of professors and certified professionals, ensuring students gain real-world insights through a multicultural lens.

“These experiences ensure students feel supported and prepared to navigate professional environments confidently,” says Dr. Patricia Thomas, Dean of the College of Business. “Career readiness framed through a culturally inclusive lens is not just a feature of this program—it is a necessity for our institution’s commitment to quality and inclusive excellence.”

“We designed CR1A to answer the call from industries that have long said, ‘Give us graduates who can get to the root of problems.’ Our students receive hands-on training in Lean Six Sigma methodology, preparing them for Yellow Belt certification at no additional cost to them or their families,” says Denise Brown, Founder and Executive Director of CR1A. “This is more than just career preparation—it is about empowering students to become problem-solvers in their fields.”

The academy offers more than 12 seminars covering diverse topics, including business leadership, problem-solving methodologies, and professional development. Small cohorts of no more than 20 students allow for personalized support and engagement. While the program prioritizes underrepresented students, it also welcomes those seeking an inclusive and enriching learning experience.

“Our faculty, corporate executives, and industry professionals do not just teach in this program; they give back to their community by mentoring and investing in the next generation of leaders,” Brown adds.

The Inspiring Programs in Business Award recognizes initiatives that provide comprehensive support for students from underrepresented backgrounds pursuing careers in business. CR1A is proud to be among those recognized for its innovation, inclusivity, and industry impact.

“We know that business programs are not always recognized for their success, dedication, and mentorship for underrepresented students,” says Lenore Pearlstein, owner and publisher of Insight Into Diversity magazine. “We are thrilled to recognize those that prioritize inclusive excellence and belonging and create pathways for students who seek careers in a wide range of business sectors. We are proud to honor these programs as role models for other institutions of higher education and beyond.”
