Claudia Jean Young, longtime Framingham resident, 73, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2025, at Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland, Massachusetts, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by loved ones in her final moments.
Born on July 14, 1951, in Waltham, Massachusetts, Claudia grew up with a deep sense of community and faith. She graduated in 1969 from Framingham North High School and went on to build a career with the telephone company spanning 31 years. She volunteered for the Big Brother/Big Sister organization, and after retiring, she devoted her time to helping others through her work with Mother’s Helpers.
Claudia was an active and beloved member of the Church of the Nazarene. Her faith was central to her life, and she shared it generously with others. She taught Sunday school for decades, sang in the church choir, and led children’s songs with warmth and enthusiasm. Her kindness and devotion to children left a lasting impact on those she mentored.
Claudia found joy in gardening, photography, quilting, crocheting, knitting and sewing. She lovingly handmade quilts for every new baby in the family—a cherished tradition that will be remembered for generations. She also enjoyed gathering with friends for spirited board games. Known for her lighthearted humor and welcoming spirit, she hosted arts and crafts parties as well as overnight telethon slumber parties that brought people together in laughter and camaraderie.
Claudia had a special gift for creating safe spaces where people could express themselves freely and feel truly accepted. She was a good neighbor who embodied kindness, compassion and inclusion in all aspects of her life. Her love extended not only to people but also to animals—especially her beloved cats.
She is survived by her nieces Alfa Zimmerman of Beverly, MA, Annie Young of Southbridge, MA, and Naomi Young of Maine, and nephew, Eli Young, his wife Tricia and their children, Hannah, Leah and Noah of Maine. Alfa’s husband, David Zimmerman, along with their children Alex and Penny, were among those who cherished Claudia’s presence in their lives. Annie’s children, Dillon and Beth also held special relationships with their beloved great aunt. Claudia shared close bonds with members of the Garry and Gannon families.
She was predeceased by her parents Hazel M. Young and Charles I. Young; her brother Glenn A. Young; and her dear friend, Maureen Garry.
In honor of Claudia’s compassionate spirit, donations may be made in her memory to Good Shepherd Community Care (gscommunitycare.org/donate), designated to Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence.
Claudia’s legacy of faith, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to all who were touched by her warmth, compassion and love.
