Earl J. Haley, a longtime resident of Framingham, died Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at home in his recliner at the age of 104. Born in Bangor, ME one of 9 children, he was the son of the late Frank & Charlotte (Myers) and the beloved husband of the late Ruth V. (Strumm) Haley.
Earl served his country honorably in the United States Army during WWII. Haley, who was appointed by both Republican and Democratic governors to serve on the Town of Framingham Housing Authority Commissioner and loved politics. If you wanted to run for office, you had to go meet Earl. Earl served the on the Housing Authority from 1979-1994.
Earl Haley became a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles when he moved to Framingham, and worked for 50 years as a bartender and the bar manager for the Eagles, first when it was at the former Happy Swallow, and then when the organization moved to its location on Park Street.
Earl worked on many prominent elections and had a vast amount of connections throughout the Commonwealth. Judges, State Reps, Governors to name a few. His dedication to the Housing Authority was second to none, whether it was his famous cookouts for the elderly, supporter and friend to all the employees, or taking a phone call from a tenant at home who had an issue. He was a throwback to another era when people went into public service to help their neighbors.
Earl is survived by his grandson, Shawn Arnold, his granddaughter, Deena Arnold, his great grandchildren, Kristyn Yoshida, Matthew Arnold, Christian Arnold and Haley Arnold, and his great grandson, Matthew Arnold, his nephew and caretaker, Michael Haley, Mary Carvalho, Richard Haley, Francis Haley and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Ruth, Earl was predeceased by his stepsons, Arthur and Robert Arnold, and his siblings, Francis, Raymond, Robert, Richard, Laura, Elaine Bailey, Dorothy Mustone, and Anna Lamaga.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Earl’s life by gathering for a time of visitation in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Tuesday morning February 4th from 9-10:45AM. His Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home at 11 o’clock. Interment will be private.
