Francis D. Carey, 84, a lifelong resident of Framingham, died Sunday, December 29, 2024 after a period of declining health. Born in Framingham, he was the son of the late William D. & Anita M. (Dube) Carey, and the beloved husband of Diana M. (Vitali) Carey for 62 years.
Fran was a 1958 graduate of Framingham High School and served his country honorably immediately after in the United States Navy. He then became a Framingham Police Officer in the community he loved until 1981. Fran established Bob Johnson’s Ski & Sports with partners Kevin Salvi and Ray Pillie. He was also the owner of both Fran Carey Painting and Nobscot Painting. During his retirement he enjoyed many years as a driver for Accept Transportation where he established cherished relationships with many children with special needs and their families.
Fran was a proud 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a President of Framingham Pop Warner Football for many years. He loved to ski, a good round of golf, but more than anything spending time with his family. He was extremely proud of achieving 48 years of sobriety and the several people he was able to help during that journey. The last years of his life were made more comfortable by a dedicated team of caregivers at Oak Knoll Healthcare Center.
Besides his loving wife Diana, Fran is survived by his children, Christine A. Page & her husband John, and Timothy F. Carey & his wife Ann, his grandchildren, Heather Barbieri (Brady O’Neal), Jennifer Augustino (Jason), Gina Field (Kevin), Michael Barbieri, Timothy Carey, Luke Carey (Maria), and Kaleigh Carey, his great grandchildren, Harper, Aubrey, Eleanor, Haylie, and Jack, his siblings, Rita M. Pillie (Ray), William A. Carey (Maureen), and Jeanne P. Lowrance (Joe Pfister), His cousin, William Pickett (Rosemary), and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Fran was predeceased by his siblings, Barbara A. Morrissey (Frank) and James E. Carey (Bonnie).
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Fran’s life by gathering for visitation in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Saturday morning, January 4th from 9-10:30AM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Bridget Church, 830 Worcester Rd. Framingham at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. Stephen Cemetery, Framingham.
