Charles L. Fontaine, 87, a longtime resident of Framingham died Friday, December 20, 2024 after a period of declining health. Born in Springfield he was the son of the late Herman L. & Claudine (Brouillette) Fontaine, and the beloved husband of Diane S. (Cavallini) Fontaine.

Charles was raised and educated in Springfield where he was a graduate of Cathedral High School in 1956. He then served his country honorably in the US Army. Charles earned his associate degree from the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology and went on to work as a Staff Engineer at MIT, and later N.E.C Electronics, Digital Equipment Corp, and retired as a Principal Engineer with Lucent Technologies.

Charles and Diane settled in Framingham in 1965 where they would raise their family. An outdoors man by nature, Charles enjoyed camping, hiking, sailing, canoeing, skiing, and scuba. He had a knack for photography, and sometime tranquility came in the form of classical music or even a Saturday cartoon.

Besides his loving wife Diane, Charles is survived by his children, Donald of Dennis and Lisa of Framingham, his grandchildren, Jesse, Melody and Emily, his great grandchildren, April, Caleb, Tyler, Karina, and Ava.  Besides his parents, Charles was predeceased by his daughter Lynne, and his granddaughter Nicole.

Family and friends will honor and remember Charles’ life by gathering for a time of visitation in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Tuesday morning December 31st from 8:30-9:30 AM. His Funeral Mass will follow in St. George Church, 74 School St. Framingham at 10 o’clock. Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Charles’ name to: The Salvation Army.
