City of Framingham’s 33rd Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony & Holiday Block Party Friday, December 6
FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham invites everyone to celebrate the season at its 33rd annual tree lighting ceremony, to be held on Friday, December 6, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. This year’s festivities will transform Union Avenue into a vibrant holiday block party filled with music, treats, family-friendly activities, and holiday cheer.
The celebration will feature free hot cocoa, treats, popcorn, candy canes, holiday tunes, and a festive sing-along led by the Framingham Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts at 5:30 p.m. on the Union Avenue ramp that provides access to the Memorial Building.
As the evening unfolds, gather around the grand tree for the main event—the lighting ceremony. Watch in awe as thousands of sparkling lights illuminate the night sky, marking the official start of the holiday season. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will make a special appearance, ensuring everyone leaves with hearts full of joy and cherished memories.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will make a grand entrance atop a Framingham Fire Engine after 6:15 p.m. to light the tree and bring holiday magic to downtown Framingham.
“Our tree lighting ceremony has been a Framingham tradition for decades. It brings our community together in a joyful way,” said City of Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky.
NBC10 Boston morning anchor Latoyia Edwards will serve as the master of ceremonies for the festivities.
There will also be a storywalk, and the City is honored to welcome author Megan Litwin, who will read her book Twinkle Twinkle Winter Night.
Attendees can stop by the Framingham Public Library’s outdoor green screen for a free holiday photo, available for download the next day. Children can also choose a free book, courtesy of the Friends of the Framingham Public Library.
To accommodate the celebration, Union Avenue will be closed from Concord Street to Proctor Street starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, December 6. Vehicles parked in this area will be subject to towing.
Parking is available at the Memorial Building, the main Framingham Public Library, the Danforth Building, and the Pearl Street Garage. Handicap-accessible parking will be available at the Memorial Building.
Special thanks to BJ’s Wholesale Club, Framingham Public Schools, Keefe Regional Technical School, and MetroWest Medical Center for making this event special for families by donating cookies and hot cocoa.
