Ruth Anne “Tanny” (McCarthy) Mann, 85, died peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, with her loving, devoted partner Dennis at her side.

Tanny was born in Framingham and was the daughter of the late Eugene J. and Ruth A. (Gordon) McCarthy. Growing up on Cottage Street in Saxonville, Tanny enjoyed a wonderful childhood, riding her bike through the neighborhood and playing games with her siblings and friends in the local park. She was a “Sax” girl for sure!

Tanny graduated high school from Holy Cross Academy in Brookline and attended Lesley College in Cambridge. She then lived on Warren Road in Framingham, where she made many happy memories with her four children.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Tanny ran her own networking business called SNI. At the same time, she worked one-on-one with clients as a lifestyle coach. This was a very important and meaningful part of her life. Tanny also authored several self-help books.

Moving to Cape Cod was next for Tanny, and she loved exploring the Cape with Dennis, as he did his photography. Tanny enjoyed antiquing and painting, and every day found her with a pen in hand as she made notes in her journal.

Tanny is survived by her partner of 34 years, Dennis Coates; her three sons, Kyle Mann and his wife Leslie of Sherborn; Brent Mann and his wife Yuka of Mill Valley, CA; Jonathan Mann and his wife Juliane of Winter Garden, FL; and her daughter Rebecca Queeney of Holliston; a sister Barbara O’Brien of Lincolnville, ME; two brothers, Eugene McCarthy and his wife Peggy of Bourne; John McCarthy and his wife Nancy of Pocasset; and sister, the late Miriam (McCarthy) Generazio. Tanny is also survived by five grandchildren, Veronica, Tyler, Evan, Kate and Sarah; as well as two step-grandchildren, Lorenzo and Amanda.

Funeral services and burial are private.

Expressions of sympathy in Tanny’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Arrangements by the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home of Framingham.
