While time is of the essence in the operating room (OR), care must still be provided to patients in the best and safest way possible. Medical technologies can play an important role in caring for the patient and supporting the treatment. This is where the The Omnicell Anesthesia Workstation comes in, one of the newest investments MetroWest Medical Center has funded.

The Omnicell Anesthesia Workstation (AWS) offers benefits for the demands of the OR:

o Convenience for Anesthesia Providers: Instant access to necessary medications, secure access through bioID, and efficient single dose locking drawers.

o Security for Administrators: Keeps controlled substances secure, includes reporting and analytics for accountability, and provides oversight.

o Maximize operational efficiency and improve patient safety: saves time by allowing fast, secure access to medications, provides history of medication use of users, and offers security and visibility of controlled substances while ensuring safe, convenient medication workflow.

The new AWS also increases nursing and pharmacy staff efficiency while improving medication tracking and regulatory compliance.

There are 18 Omnicell XT AWS Machines located throughout MetroWest including our ORs, Endoscopy Unit and Labor & Delivery rooms. There is also new Omnicell XT Automated Dispensing Cabinets (ADCs) in all of our inpatient units.

ADCs are computerized medicine cabinets that allow medications to be stored and dispensed near the point of care while controlling and tracking drug distribution. ADC creates a smarter, safer process for getting the right medication to the right patient, helping to improve the patient experience.
